Renegade Vienna Problems: Should I Buy One After These Issues? (My Experience)

Renegade Vienna Problems

Like many RV enthusiasts, I jumped headfirst into the world of mobile travel with a Renegade Vienna. While it’s considered a top-notch motorhome, like any RV, it has its quirks.

The common Renegade Vienna problems I encountered were problematic AC, hard-to-sanitize freshwater tanks, loose propane tanks, and malfunctioning sensors.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a seasoned RV traveler or just trying RVing. In circumstances like this, being able to resolve vehicular issues ensures a smooth and enjoyable journey.

Common Problems With Renegade Vienna

Reviews say that the Renegade Vienna RV is considered to be one of the better motorhomes. But like any other travel trailer, there are still problems that you may encounter.

Here, I’ll share some common issues I faced and the solutions I found to keep my journeys smooth and enjoyable.

Problem Solution
AC Problem Check for loose wires and replace the thermostat.
Unsanitized Freshwater Tank Put sanitizing chemicals in the tank.
Black Tank Sensor Issues Clean with detergent and water softener.
Loose Propane Tanks Tighten or replace bolts.
Diesel Exhaust Fluid Sensor Problems Keep the DEF tank full at all times. Replace sensor.

1. AC Problem

The first time the AC wouldn’t turn on, I panicked a little. Imagine rolling into a scorching campsite and discovering your AC isn’t cooperating!

My air conditioner may not open from time to time. I inspected the unit and found some loose wires. Thankfully, a quick tightening fixed the problem.

However, the next time it happened, I replaced the thermostat, and that did the trick and brought cool air back into my Vienna.

2. Unsanitized Freshwater Tank

Cleaning your Renegade Vienna’s freshwater tank can be very tricky. You have to remove the filter and pipes before you can start cleaning it.

So, I found a simpler solution! I started using a sanitizing chemical or mix ¾ cup of bleach with 3 gallons of water for every 15 gallons of tank volume. Here’s the process I found most effective:

  1. Drain your freshwater tank and make sure the valves are closed.
  2. Remove the filter.
  3. Insert the hose.
  4. Restore the tank’s water flow and add sanitizing chemicals to the hose.
  5. Set your water tank to Dry Camping Mode and clean everything by letting water run through appliances.
  6. After 4 to 5 hours, I drained the freshwater tank then the black and gray tanks.
  7. Flush to clean.

3. Black Tank Sensor Issues

One time, the black tank sensor kept giving me the wrong information, leading to confusion. I discovered that the culprit was usually a buildup of grime, food particles, or even toilet paper.

Eventually, this could lead to clogged or leaky toilets.

To fix this, I thoroughly cleaned the black tank. Here’s how:

  1. I connected the tank’s sewer hose and emptied the tank.
  2. Then, I poured 1 cup detergent and 1 cup water softener into the tank. You can also use sensor cleaners.
  3. Flush the cleaner out as well as any debris.

4. Loose Propane Tanks

When I’m driving my Renegade Vienna RV on bumpy roads, there’s a high chance that the bolts underneath my propane tanks are getting loose. This could be dangerous, so I learned to check them regularly.

If they were loose, I’d either tighten the bolts or replace them with nylon locking nuts. This simple procedure only required a floor jack.

5. Diesel Exhaust Fluid Sensor

Your Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) sensor could be broken if your RV engine de-rates. This happened to me once, and it turned out the sensor was either contaminated, or the DEF tank wasn’t full enough.

To solve it, I first ensured the DEF tank was filled to its maximum capacity at all times. In some cases, if the multiprocessor was faulty, replacing the sensor is the solution.

Conclusion

For a seamless and enjoyable RV travel experience, you have to be aware of and know how to fix these common Renegade Vienna problems. That way, you’ll be relieved from stress when dealing with these kinds of situations.

May your RV adventures be filled with unforgettable moments on the open road!
