Sick of having to undo your seatbelt and lean right over and down to access
the handbrake on your motorhome ?
Our handy easy to use Kobran handbrake extender solves this
frustrating motorhome design flaw

Our motorhome handbrake extension fits all Pre 2007 Fiat Ducatos, Peugeot and
Citroen with no issues
(On 2007 models onwards the handbrake levers /
grips are slightly thicker in diameter, and you may need to use longer retaining
bolts at the bottom which are supplied if you enter 2007 onwards in the year of
manufacture when purchasing).
Sometimes the handbrake extender fits immediately, but in some case small
modifications such as the use of a slightly longer version of the retaining
bolts may be needed.
(NOTE: This does not fit Mercedes Sprinter based vehicles
)
We can confirm that the following vans can use our handbrake extender with
the use of either packing rubber or longer bolts (We will add models to the list
as and when we hear about them) :
Toyota Hiace 2004 VW T4 1993. Ford transit motorhomes (Pre 2007) VW Type 4
Motorhomes
The design is such that it should fit all vans, campervans and motorhomes.
The Kobran handbrake extender can be used on RHD or LHD motorhomes (The
retaining screws simply need to be unscrewed and turned around to ensure the
silver washer type screw head is facing outwards).
These motorhome handbrake extenders are constructed of tough Polyamid 66 with
30% glass fibre.
12 Months manufacturer warranty on our handbrake extender for motorhomes.

With this handbrake extender attached the grip level will be 130mm
higher.
The Kobran handbrake extender works like a sleeve fitting over the existing
handbrake handle, the dimensions of the sleeve diameter are cylindrical with the
largest dimension being the vertical diameter of approx 35mm and the shortest
dimension of the cylinder being 30mm in the horizontal.
These dimensions are slightly flexible due to the clamping arrangement of the
3 captive screw head retainers which when screwed tight using a simple cross
head screwdriver then clamp the handbrake extender to the handbrake handle.

Motorhome Monthly Magazine (MMM) Review of the Handbrake Extender
2007 HELPFUL HANDBRAKE HANDLE The handbrake of the Ducato,
Boxer, etc can be hard to reach for drivers with short arms, especially when a
seat swivel has been fitted. This extension handle effectively raises the
handbrake grip by around 4.5in (11.5cm). The main component of this fitting is a
single moulding of glass-reinforced polyamide. The lower edge of the tubular
section has two flanges that are pulled together by three pairs of screws and
nuts, clamping the handle around the handbrake. The handle fits equally easily
to right-hand or left-hand drive vehicles.
Pivoted on the front of this handle is a lever, the lower end of which bears
against the handbrake release button. By pressing forward with the thumb on the
upper end of this lever, the handbrake can thus be released. Relaxing the thumb
pressure allows the button to return to its locked position under its own spring
loading.
In my own case, the problem is not the usual one. Because I have these
generous appendages at the side of my body, which the less kind (i.e. my wife)
often associate with a primate, I have no trouble reaching the handbrake. Our
‘van is an A class, with a body designed for left-hand drive, fitted onto a
right-hand drive chassis. This is not much of a problem, but one of the
inconveniences is that the handbrake, instead of being next to the driver’s
door, is squeezed between the seat and the rear of the gas locker, making access
awkward (especially with primate’s size of hands).
This problem has been made considerably less with the handbrake extender.
Fitting is straightforward if access is reasonable. In my own case, it was a
little more difficult and required two extremely short screwdrivers to reach the
screws and nuts, both of which have crosshead ends. If only the manufacturers
had used allen heads, then allen keys would have been easy to use.
From the driving and parking point of view, the operation of the handbrake
remains virtually unchanged.
