Motorhome Gas Alarm - Magic Safe (MSG-150-N)

The MAGIC SAFE gas alarm recognises KO gases (ether, chloroform, and triclorethene) plus Propane and Butane.

When do motor enthusiasts know that gas from an onboard supply has leaked into their mobile home?

Probably only when it is too late ...

MAGIC SAFE MSG-150, the new gas sensor by WAECO, guards them from such dangerous surprises. It reliably detects the presence of hazardous gases in the ambient air and immediately triggers alarm. The noise of its integrated buzzer just can't be ignored, and a red lamp lights up for extra warning. And MAGIC SAFE MSG-150 can do even more: it will also detect all common narcotic gases and save lives before it is too late. The "board detective" recognises all kinds of narcotic gases based on ether, chloroform, butane, ethane and trichloroethene and triggers alarm immediately. Once activated, the gas sensor automatically adjusts itself to the ambient air. It works entirely independent of the temperature and cleans itself.

The integrated relay circuits allow for three different applications: as stand-alone unit, in combination with WAECO's MAGIC SAFE MS-650 car alarm, or in combination with the MS-620SI siren. When combined with the MS-650 car alarm, the gas sensor can be operated with the remote control of the car alarm.

It will detect all narcotic gases based on ether, chloroform, butane, ethane and trichlorethene.

When you've switched on the gas sensor, the system will initially perfrom a self function test and then adjust automatically to the room atmosphere. Any system failure will be immediately indicated.

The alarm can be silenced with the test button, which can also be used for a manual function test anytime. WAECO's new gas alarm is ready for easy connection to 12 volts and 24 volt suplies.

Please note that when installing a gas alarm its recomend to mount it as close to the ground as possible as narcotic and LPG type gas are heaver than air and will naturally sink to the lowest area of the motorhome/caravan.

Phew!...with all that I read recently about gas attacks in Europe I can now look forward to our forthcoming trip to France, Germany, Switzerland and Italy much more reassurance. Small, tidy device worth every penny as far as I'm concerned!

Mario Pintanel - Friday 19 December, 2008

Fast delivery, good price and great device.
I´ll sleep much safer from right now.

Brian Ramsden - Friday 11 August, 2006

The alarm measures L6" x W3" x D2" and comes with 6' 3" of heavy duty 12V cable, terminating in a cigarette lighter plug. The directions for installation and use are comprehensive and easy to follow. I have used the alarm on a recent 9 week tour of the Continent and found it easy to use. I can not (thankfully) comment on its effectiveness as an alarm, but it was reassuring to know that it was there, in certain locations.

One potential snag is that it detects both anaesthetic gases and butane (it does not state that it detects propane, but as they are chemically similar, it may well do so). This complicates the decision as to what to do if the alarm sounds in the night. The manual says evacuate the 'van, without activating any electrical or electronic appliances. This is fine, if the alarm is activated by butane from a leaking appliance, but if the alarm has been activated by an anaesthetic gas, you might prefer to set of your intruder alarm and ventilate the 'van, whilst staying inside.
