RAC Trackstar
 |
The RAC Trackstar Plus system is installed in such a way that it integrates with the motorhomes existing immobiliser system. Immobiliser systems are designed to recognise signals sent from a transponder located inside the ignition key: consequently modern motorhomes shouldn't start unless the correct key is used. |
 |
However, despite innovations, such as 'rolling code' immobilisers, which change their codes every time the motorhome is locked, thieves still manage to bypass such systems. |
 |
Via sophisticated motion sensors RAC Trackstar Plus recognises if a vehicle has moved illegally, and will immediately alert the RAC National Control Centre. These alerts continue every 20 seconds until the vehicle is recovered |
 |
The computer system developed by Trafficmaster utilises the network of Global Positioning Satellites (GPS) to monitor the vehicle's signal and track its direction of travel, speed and location - to an accuracy of five metres. |
 |
The RAC Trackstar National Control Centre will check with the owner to verify if the vehicle has been stolen. The owner then has to obtain a crime reference number, which gives Trackstar the authority to work directly with the police. |
 |
The National Control Centre is manned 24 hours a day every day of the year, and will be on hand to update the police with the vehicle's location throughout the entire vehicle track. |
 |
Upon receipt of this information the police are able to locate the vehicle and in many cases apprehend the thief. |
 |
Upon successful completion of the operation the vehicle will be returned to the owner, free of charge, by the RAC. |
Common Questions & Answers:
1. Can the signal be jammed? No, the GSM system uses digital transmission which cannot be intercepted or jammed.
2. Is it possible to protect against the vehicle being stolen, put on a low loader or towed away? Yes, the in-built covert motion sensor immediately detects this.
3. What happens if the vehicle is stolen, stripped down and RAC Trackstar disconnected? Again, within seconds of the vehicle being broken into, the location would be known and tracked and the Monitoring Centre would know the last position of the motorhome.
4. What happens if I don't use my motorcaravan every day? Don't worry. We know, as motorcaravanners ourselves, that sometimes weeks can go by without using the van. Because of this, every motorcaravan RAC Trackstar has a Battery Master to take the strain off of the engine battery.
5. What coverage does the system have? Wherever there is GSM coverage, the system will transmit, but the RAC Trackstar infrastructure only offers the whole package for the UK at this time.
6. Where in the vehicle is the system installed? The System is fitted covertly in a range of places.
7. Is the System visible once it has been installed? No. The fitter will install the hardware in such a position that it would be necessary to remove considerable amounts of the vehicle's trim to gain access to it.
8. If the customer forgets what to do, what happens? The customer will contact the Monitoring Centre. Using other information known only to the customer, he can then be identified on the database.
9. What happens if the System is damaged by a minor car accident? We advise the system to be checked after any accident. Any approved RAC Trackstar installer could check the unit after an accident.
10. What happens if there is a change of ownership of the vehicle? The owner may transfer the system to the new vehicle. Alternatively, the system can be transferred to the new owner of the vehicle.
11. If the customer goes on holiday, what happens? The customer will have given the Customer Services Desk secondary contacts whilst they are away.
12. Does the RAC Trackstar System protect the contents of the motorcaravan? No. If the contents of the motorhome need protecting we recommend the Strikeback Motorcaravan alarm system.
13. What happens if there is a power cut at the Monitoring Centre? The Monitoring Centre has appropriate back-up systems to enable monitoring to continue whilst keeping the loss of operational service to an absolute minimum.
14. If the vehicle is attacked outside the main conurbations, can it still be tracked to street level? Yes, through the high level of investment, the motorcaravan can be tracked to street level throughout the UK. However, GPS co-ordinates could be supplied throughout Europe.
RAC Trackstar is not cheap and from the original concept it was never designed to be. A fusion of expertise and cutting edge technology, backed up 24 hours a day, 365 days a year could never be expected to be cheap and work efficiently. However, it is not expensive. The annual monitoring fee is £180.00 inc vat which represents 49p per day. Compare this to the cost of parking your motorcaravan in an unsecured car park for a morning!
The high capital equipment costs can, in the main, be salvaged as it is intended that most private users would have RAC Trackstar transferred from motorhome to motorhome. However, if you do think that you will keep your motorcaravan at least three years it is possible to pay a 'Duration of Ownership' monitoring fee. £500.00 inc vat is a one off payment and covers you for the entire time you own the motorcaravan.
Standard Installation is:
RAC Trackstar GPS positioning system interfaced GMS/SMS modem. Covert GPS Receiver. Covert GSM Antenna. 24 Hour Protector Motion Sense, Battery Back Up. Automatic Battery Transfer system to enable RAC Trackstar to use power from both the engine and leisure batteries. RAC Trackstar interfaced with existing Category II/factory fitted Immobiliser.
