Europe In a Motorhome Book
Note: Price includes Postage
Bored with the daily grind and keen to escape the rat-race, Hazel and Simon Jackson did what so many dream of - they sold their house and possessions, bought a motor home, took their thirteen year old son out of school and travelled Europe. They left winter behind and for the next year they barbecued on beaches, skied on mountains, swam in warm seas and danced at fiestas.
Encountering everything from Spanish hospitals, and the Guardia Civil when they were robbed in Spain - to being ripped off in Rome, propositioned in Sicily, dazzled in Dubrovnik, and almost drowned in Slovenia... they wild-camped their way through southern Europe, in a motor home affectionately known as The Beast.
They slept, ate and lived in a different place almost every day, meeting locals off the beaten track, making new, lasting friendships... and shared it all with their teenage son Jack.
If you enjoy travel and need to be re-assured that you aren't the only ones who break-down, get lost, or stuck in impossible situations, then this is the book for you. Join them as they travel for a year through Europe, from the luxury of your arm-chair.
Brimming with useful tips and historical information, this is a book full of humour, catastrophes and everything else that comes with life on the road.
It is a dream come true.

Brave and courageous or foolhardy and selfish? You have to read ‘Europe in a Motorhome’ before you make a judgment on whether Hazel and Simon Jackson were right to opt out of the unending competition for success and wealth in which society seems to almost demand we should participate.
What they did, as Hazel relates in this book – sub-titled A Mid-life Gap Year Around Southern Europe – was part-exchange nearly all their possessions and home for one of those big American RVs and wander off into the continental sunset. In tow and absent from school for a year was a 13-year-old son.
Well, having a gipsy spirit myself, I was captivated until the end. After initially skipping over some of the tourist information-laden bits, I found myself re-reading some chapters just to get Hazel Jackson’s take on where I might one day visit.
This is a fascinating account on the trials and troubles, joys and victories of life on the road. If anything, as a fellow motorhomer, I could have read even more about how their coach-like RV coped with narrow European roads and small campsite pitches. Not to mention getting rid of toilet waste and ‘grey’ water.
All that is small beer but, having got under the skin of this family and their adventures, there is one other big question – when will the next volume of their adventures appear?
